Funding Awarded for Native American Educators

$10 million in grants given to institutions for training and recruitment.

This past week, the U.S. Department of Education announced that $10 million has been awarded in 29 grants for the recruiting and training of Native American educators. As part of the president’s focus on equity, the projects funded will support the diversity of the teaching and administrative workforce in Native and tribal education.

“Representation matters. All students deserve the opportunity to be taught by educators who are diverse and who reflect their backgrounds and experiences—and we know that far too few Native American students have the chance to engage with Native American teachers in their schools and as education leaders and mentors in their communities. That must change,” said Education Secretary Miguel Cardona. “I am heartened that this program will help to create a more diverse educator workforce for students across the country and support efforts to recruit and retain more talented Native American teachers and administrators for our schools.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For discernment for Secretary Cardona as he heads the department.
  • For officials in the Education Department as they seek to support Native American students.
  • For the grants to serve God’s purpose for Native American learning.
